Our October garden visit was to Harvest in Newrybar on the 5 October 2024.
Harvest comprises of a Restaurant, Deli, historic wood fired Bakery surrounded by gardens.
Initially the garden started some 10 years ago as a simple veggie garden, and over the years has grown into an ornamental and veggie garden that supplies the businesses with produce and flowers, village green and area for weddings and events.
Richie La Face, head gardener for three and a half years at Harvest approaches the garden with a naturalist approach, planting veggie beds in an unconventional way to making them ornamental, yet functional. The garden is run 100% organic and by means of a circular composting system that is feed by the waste from the businesses.
Much of the garden is planted with the view to provide produce for the business, however some areas have over the years developed into ornamental beds. Richie’s goal is to bring back traditional cottage gardening into peoples’ lives.
