All members received a very warm welcome back by our co-Presidents.  With talk of workshops and bus trips, the year ahead looks very interesting.  The Club’s financial position is strong and the bank account is healthy.

 

Guest speakers for the year included quite a few of our own members:  Adelina Linardon, Diana Sharpe, Karen Bono, Lesley Player and Bruce Tom, Patricia Di Tullo and David Williamson. Invited guest speakers included Susan Fitzpatrick from Alstonville, Brian Klepzing from Neutrog, Lyn Thompson from Landcare and the local garden guru Phil Dudman (a very entertaining speaker).

 

Member Steven Wedd had huge success with his dahlias and was named grand champion at the Qld Dahlia Society Awards.  Congratulations, Steven!  Diana Sharp organized workshops on plant propagation and floral design.  Both were well attended.  The 2022 floods were devastating and during this incident, the Garden Club bench in Schultz Park was damaged.  It was decided to repair the bench, put on replacement plaques for the club and for Daisy Dare and a new plaque to honour member Sandra Mankowski who passed away recently.  She, like Daisy, had been a staunch Club supporter and worker.

 

Garden visits included the gardens of Don and Jessica Linney at Eureka, Gretel Farm at Eureka, CRU Gardens at Uralba, and Harvest at Newrybar.  The bus trip to the Qld Government House and Garden as well as the Mt Coot-Tha botanic gardens was a resounding success.

The Club’s annual Christmas lunch was held at Summerland House Farm restaurant.  As ever, it was an enjoyable lunch and thoroughly appreciated by those there.  Thank you, committee.
