Guest speaker: Steve Sayers on Strelitzia
Steve has a commercial nursery in Billinudgel, just north of Bangalow.
He has had a long love affair with this South African native plant - since he was a boy in fact.
Strelitzia regina is the most popular species seen in gardens & grows prolifically in this area.
There are several varietal heights in this species ... miniature is 1.2m max; dwarf is 90cm max with the standard much taller.
Another species that he adores is Strelitzia juncea.
It has a reed or rush stem
Strelitzia parvifolia has a small paddle with along stem.
Strelitzia mandela has yellow not gold sepals.
Strelitzia are very easy to grow and thrive in full sun
